Care Packages!

Phew! These past few weeks just flew right on by. In 4 weeks my classes will finally come to an end, thus closing my junior year with a bang. I have yet to find a university to transfer too but i’m pretty sure everything will work out before we move to Connecticut. In 3 weeks my wonderful boyfriend will come from New Zealand and visit me for a month, and then in June it’ll be my turn to go visit him in New Zealand. Last time my boyfriend visited me, I made him a small care package with some of my favorite teas, a few dry foods and a few kitchen essentials to help him with his stay. This time I want to bake him a few goods since the hotel he’s staying in provides a stove and a fridge inside each room. I searched article after article till I made a small collection of care packages that inspired me to put a little something together for Greg.

Since I don’t have to worry about actually sending this overseas, i’m thinking about baking a few loaves of bread, wrapping it up in a small yet pretty piece of cloth with a small jar of jam or his favorite chutney. I’m still getting some ideas together so expect another post of the finished result sometime in the next few weeks.

It’s been a while since i’ve a) crafted anything, b) had time to do anything besides study. My parents have also informed me of our relocation to CT this coming August so i’m going to have a lot on my plate for the next few months. However, I was able to finish a few more pages of the recipe book Greg and I are creating together. I’ll post pictures as soon as my parents come back from France with the camera. :3 For a few days, I rummaged through my mother’s old recipe books filled with handwritten Brazilian recipes and did my best to convert the measurements to the metric system, which was one hellava time consuming project lolol.

Speaking of recipes, my friend Reanna started her very own baking blog which is already filled with recipes. I highly recommend for everyone that is interested in baking to give her blog a try! You can reach her blog by clicking here.

edit: Did a bit of spring cleaning on my blog, took out that Avon post since it had no reason being on a craft/art/food blog. <3

Quick Update

Ah, I’ve been doing SUCH a lousy job updating my blog! My time has literally been at a minimum because of college but when I have a little down time, I continue to work on a few projects. The picture above is one of those projects, it’s a recipe book Greg and I are making for when we go to New Zealand in June. I received the journal from Adriana in Christmas as part of Secret Santa. The next project we both want to start together is making a scrapbook; i’m so happy that my man wants to engage himself in these things with me.

I’m ashamed to admit that I still have to mail Reanna’s Christmas gift still, but I promise to get it done as soon as I have an opening from my classes.

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

American Valentines day is just around the corner and for people like me, early planning is the way to go. As most of you know, i’m more of a baker than a crafter so for this year’s Brazilian Valentines Day (June 12th), i’m going to bake a little something for Greg. I found a bunch of cute little ideas from a few sites I regular stalk, but since i’m pressed for time, I decided to post these cute and easy treats by Martha Stewart. Enjoy!

Brownie Heart Cupcakes by Martha Stewart. If your S.O is as big of a fan of chocolate as you are, what better way to make these simple brownie cupcakes. If he’s not much of a brownie fan, leave the frosting but throw some red little edible confetti hearts on top. Simple and cute! This is definitely on my list of must-do’s but there’s a good chance i’m going to try sneaking dark chocolate in there somewhere.

Chocolate Dipped Shortbread Hearts by Martha Stewart. Shortbreads = one of the easiest things on Earth to make, this is a quick way of getting to your partners stomach without a lot of work nor mess. For variety, try dipping it in more than one type of chocolate.

Conversation Heart Cookies by Martha Stewart. Add a little whimsical touch to your gift and personalize your cookies with a simple stamp. The message of course is up to your own tastes – whether it’s innocent such as “I Love You’s” or maybe add just a bit of fire to the mix. ;D I don’t see why you can’t do this with any leftover shortbread dough so if anyone tries it with shortbread, please leave me a comment.

A craft-related Valentine’s Day post is soon to come! Sadly however, I won’t have any of my own examples to post since I will not be celebrating the American Valentine’s Day.

Short hiatus~

However, I must take a short break to get everything ready for my Spring semester. I'll post again soon!

Crafts and Christmas Packaging Ideas~

It’s time for a much needed update and I decided to mix this with a bit of my current crafts and packaging ideas. The cat’s out of the bag and Greg found out what some of his Christmas presents are, here’s one of them:

The Christmas tree is made from newspaper and magazines cut at the appropriate sizes and layered on top of each other. The base itself (not shown) is made from 2oz of polyclay, the baking kind, with a knitting needle stuck in the middle to create the skeleton of the tree. Afterwards I simply sprayed adhesive spray and spammed the tree with white glass glitter till it resembled a bit of snow~ Top it off with a star and there you go! Unfortunately the tree is too heavy and fragile to send to New Zealand and make it there in one piece. >:

For Reanna’s gift, I made a little a broach/scarf holder/badge. Sorry for the bad picture, my camera can’t focus on small objects very well:

I chain-stitched a little heart to the broach/scarf holder/badge to add a little feminine charm.

While I was working on Reanna’s other gifts, I received her package in the mail today and it was honestly one of the sweetest things someone has ever done for me~ Everything was delicious (I want some of the recipes!) and you could see how much love she put in every single thing.

Post-Turkey Day Update

Hope everyone’s Turkey Day went well! After a 20 hour car ride back to Chicago, my love surprised me with a quick video he made from his trip here last month. He calls this: “The prelude to a longer and better video” but in my opinion it’s absolutely perfect. <3 In other news, in order to celebrate the 300+ hits my blog has currently received, i’m finishing up a drawing for those who keep checking back on regular basis. I didn’t think my little blog would actually get anyone looking at it, thank you~!

Unfortunately as the wonderful month of December begins, my college finals are just around the corner. Many of the images of my crafts, including the 300+ hit project sketch will all be posted together with the next update. I promise lots of eye candy, including a tutorial on how to start candlewicking your own pillows~
